TEAADORA- A Jamais Vierge Virgin Forever 8.3

Teaadora creates an otherworldly sound of neo-folk and drone. Each piece brings you deeper and deeper into Teaadora’s aural environment. ‘A Jamais Vierge/Virgin Forever’ has quite a large range, going from calm spoken word to droning, cloudy to near clear delivery. What unites all of these songs is a determined dark weirdness, a slight off-sound which disorientates the listener in the most wonderful way possible.

“Virgin Forever” begins the album off in the most elegant way possible. It grows and grows, slowly morphing into something quite menacing. Other tracks defy definition. “Pre-Agriculture Languageless Culture” moves in a drunken disorientation. The song sounds teetering, as if at any moment it could simply collapse into a wall of noise. Microscopic noises jolt about as the song proceeds, unsure of where they are going.

Nothing on here is normal or immediately recognize. Even the more accessible tracks on here “The Only One” and “Following the Sound” have their own quirks. “The Only One” has a comforting drone in the background. “Following the Sound” has Teaadora Nikolova’s voice in the forefront, with only minor electronic effects.

I’m at a loss of how to compare this album or sound. There are genres which give you an inkling of what to expect, but this is a thoroughly unique experience. Nothing I’ve heard before comes close to describing precisely what’s going on here. The unpredictably of the album is definitely one of its most enjoyable features. At no point are you give a straight forward piece, the instability is the best part of Teaadora’s work.
