Stephen Tully Dierks and Steve Roggenbuck are potent poetry powerhouses. Re-united in the same apartment, we can expect a huge amount of literary lunacy coming out of there. In fact, their brands are so potent that the positive energy, if harnessed, could power a small American city. Cheyenne, Wyoming could be powered by their prose potential. Brett Gallagher was there as well, promoting his new twitter unknownlands. Follow him and he’ll follow you. If Brett gets enough followers he’ll do something suggestive, something offensive, something Jordan Castro – esque (via soft core porn).
It was Steve’s birthday. Well, it is actually on November 11th but they felt like doing it now. On the 11th Steve will (no joke) be addressing Duke University about the power of writing. Anybody in the North Carolina should see it. Steve will overwhelm the sleepy Southern city. I am glad he’ll be following his dreams and promoting writing on the internet. Our internet city needs a bit more support. Make Steve Roggenbuck the mayor of the internet. Let his benevolent rule guide us.
They read “A Million Bears”. Steve recited Spencer’s poem about his cat. People were moved dramatically by this reading. Everyone hoped that Spencer will someday find a girlfriend. If Spencer finds a girlfriend he should have sex with her repeatedly. I hope this happens soon.
“Selected Unpublished Blog Posts of a Mexican Panda Express Employee” moved me. I have reviewed Megan Boyle's work on here before. But the particular post he read reflected the fear many bloggers have. Do we blog in public or must we blog in private? Are blogs still something we look down upon? Will blogs ever become well respected? Since I write these at home I think I know the answer. Hiding in shadows I long for the light of acceptance.
An orange Popsicle appeared. Steve ate it suggestively in front of us. We played with language as it was our want. Every time Roggenbuck asked for a word we came to his rescue. Mad libs feel a bit more relevant with one of the most cited internet poets of our time. Personally it touched me in the deepest part of my internet-based heart.
Michel Houellebecq’s book “Whatever” received some attention. To many Michel’s goal is to shock and offend. Since he’s French that is relatively easy. What I heard was perhaps one of the most intense things I’ve ever encountered in my entire life. I laughed a little bit. Life without a bed sounds terrible. As I sleep 16 hours a day I can’t imagine life without my giant, comfy bed. Reunion, some shitty island in the Indian Ocean, is Michel’s place of birth. Otherwise I don’t know anything about him.
Poetry came out. Steve Roggenbuck read to us an unreleased dub – step based poem. For those of you not in the know, dubstep is the latest British import. Everybody digs this wobble. A second, unreleased poem came out, this one from Mr. Dierks. Look out for it in Red Lightbulbs. Neither one will I ruin. When you see these you’ll literally and feel your life change.
Tzara got love. Those of you who don’t know, there was a certain conflict when Kat Dixon called the boykittens Neo-Dadaists. People got deeply offended. Kat Dixon received a great deal of comments for that post. Now she is best buds with everyone. I’m glad Tzara got some attention. Even before I got into poetry, I always enjoyed Tzara’s goofy surrealism.
Poncho Poligroso’s poem popped up. This will be in Pop Serial issue 3, a great literary magazine headed up by none other than Stephen Tully Dierks. You may better know Mr. Dierks as the head of Pop Serial, one of the latest and greatest literary magazines. Glad Pop Serial was able to get Poncho to release work; Poncho is the 2011 Poet Laureate. That’s a pretty big get.
Steve Roggenbuck read Jean-Jacques Rousseau’s book “The Social Contract”. Marshall Mallicoat, a relevant writer, had some of his poems read. Apparently Marshall lived in a car for a while, but he’s back now. Now he has a physical home and appears to be real wild. Every poem offended my delicate sensibilities.
Jack Nicholls, a guy I’ve never heard about before, saw his work presented to the ustream public. Everyone danced, everyone celebrated. I felt better knowing about the pug puppies. Pug Puppies make ends meet by whoring themselves out. They also dance. Matt Margo had his book read, specifically chapter 14 of “Friends Let Friends Let”.
We were treated to free form dance moves. I wish I could be as graceful as Steve or Stephen. But I’m not cut out for dancing; I’m cut out for sleeping. “See you while I’m jerking off” Mr. Dierks said to Brett affectionately.
They were chilling for Godot.
