Tis the season for best of the year music lists. I always know when this happens. Pitchfork stops reviewing albums for the rest of the year, going into ‘hibernate’ mode. Bands announce releases for the next year. The air gets a little colder. I start wearing my warm jacket. Quilts pile up, ready to keep me warm and toasty, like a happy bed burrito.
Movies bore me. Music doesn’t. I love a lot of albums. Unhealthy amounts of music travel through these ears, and I don’t get a chance to write about all of it (despite the hundreds of album reviews I’ve already posted).
I know how difficult it can be to sort through all these posts. Just this year I wrote my first e-book celebrating one year of existence. Buy it here; give me money so I can sustain myself, however marginally. Pay one dollar and get the experience of a lifetime.
People want to know what you listened to throughout the year. There are so many pratfalls. You could copy and paste other people’s opinions. You could oppose anybody else’s opinions. The possibilities are endless. It depends on how comfortable you are with yourself, with being judged, and with your taste in music.
With that, I introduce to you my top albums of the year. Some people list them up to a certain number. I’m going to put down whatever I enjoyed. A few sites have a ‘Best New Music’ category to make this job easier. As I’m a single sloth, I don’t have that luxury. Hope you discover an album or two which rocks your little world, like it did mine. Note I am never able to listen to as much music as I want to, due to that whole real life I lead. Someday I’ll figure out a way to whittle down the days to pure pop perfection, until then, there are headphones.
